a brand of computers. They are high-end (aka expensive) WiFi laptops that use Intel processors to provide very high speed computational ability. Intel wanted to see manufacturers offer top-flight notebook computers -- with their processors, of course -- that were lightweight (generally weighing in at about three pounds) and very thin in construction (something less than .85 inches). Many of them have touch-screen interface and very tough uni-body shells of aluminum and/or magnesium. Other available features -- low power draw leading to extended battery life, solid state drives, rapid startup and enhanced security. The downsides -- sometimes no Ethernet connectablility, no USB ports, and no high end video cards; to name several. And, did I mention a higher price; you won't find an Ultrabook in the sub-$300 range. But, hey; you get what you pay for.hp spectre ultrabook laptop

Here's a prime example of an Ultrabook -- the HP Envy Spectre 14" Silver Ultrabook ($1308). Windows 7 Home Premium, i5 processor for near lightning speed, backlit keyboard that senses your presence, solid state drive, Rapid Start technology, up to 9 hours of battery service life, Beats audio, HD display and webcam, a pair of USB ports, HDMI, and two year online and phone support warranty. Nice.
